About Toronto International Airport

Originally a farmhouse, the Toronto Pearson Airport began operations in 1939 as Bishop Field. In 1984 it was renamed in honor of Lester B. Pearson, former Canadian prime minister.

The airport has five runways, all of them at least 9,000 feet long. The busiest domestic and international airport in Canada, Pearson is the Air Canada home base, from which it operates an extensive network of domestic and international flights. Air Canada is a Star Alliance member. Other Canadian airlines serving Pearson include CanJet, Sunwing, Air Transat and discount airline WestJet.

Pearson Airport has two terminals, numbered one and three. At Terminal One is the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, which is available to all passengers traveling on Star Alliance member airlines. Terminal One has 38 gates among three piers designated D, E and F. Covering about five million square feet, it is one of the largest airline terminals in the world.

At Terminal Three is the American Airlines Admirals Club and the British Airways The Galleries First Lounge, both of which welcome passengers traveling on OneWorld Alliance member airlines. The KLM Crown Lounge is also at Terminal Three, open to all travelers flying on Skyteam member airlines. Terminal Three has 39 gates divided among three piers. A hotel and parking garage are connected to Terminal Three.

There are Plaza Premium Lounges at both terminals, which are connected by the LINK people mover. Pearson is among several Canadian airports that have a United States border preclearance facility. Many scheduled and charter airlines fly from Toronto to American cities. FedEx Express maintains an air cargo facility on the west side of the airport, while the VISTA Cargo Center is used by many international airlines.
